VOICES- Girls Empowerment Group

VOICES is an Empowerment Group for Girls (ages 14-18) using evidenced based research and topics identified by Stephanie Covington who is a clinician, author, and considered a pioneer in the area of women’s issues. VOICES was created to address the unique needs of adolescent girls and young women. It encourages them to seek and celebrate their “true selves” by providing a safe space, encouragement, structure, and the support they need to embrace their journeys of self-discovery. The program includes modules on self, connecting with others, healthy living, and the journey ahead. Today we are hearing more about girls and bullying, the pressures of social media, early puberty, gender exploration, human sex trafficking, binge drinking, texting, social media, and online or “in real life” (IRL) friends are part of the changes in girls’ social lives.  They will also be taught healthy coping skills through things such as journaling, yoga, and meditation.

If you have a daughter, granddaughter, niece, student, or friend who needs help increasing their self-esteem, decreasing depression and anxiety, increasing relationship skills, and increasing their healthy coping mechanisms, she could benefit from the group.  Each girl will need to do an initial visit with Kelly Volkmann to determine if the group will be a good fit for everyone participating.   Please contact Kelly for further details.

Feedback from past participants in the group:
"I participated in the group because I felt like I needed a confidence boost and I got that.  I am now more positive about life.  The best part of the group was being able to relate to other people my age, and I learned to be a strong confident person.  I loved it!" 15-year-old girl
"I participated in the group because I have really bad anxiety and stress and I have problems dealing with it. I also have no confidence in myself.  The group helped me improve in these areas.  I'm pretty shy and this group helped me open up more.  I learned that other people deal with the same problems." 18-year-old girl
"I participated in group because I wanted some advice and comfort.  I felt like I improved in these areas and I am more open.  I also learned I can speak honestly." 17-year-old girl
